Jadon Sancho’s fitness should put Premier League teams off transfer

Up until March, the most sought-after player in the world was Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. The winger, who has scored 14 goals and assisted 17 scores in 26 Bundesliga games, was linked to the biggest clubs in the Premier League with both Manchester United and Liverpool tipped to pay an outrageous £105 million-plus fee for his services. However, since the Bundesliga returned from the coronavirus-induced break, Sancho has failed to start any of Borussia Dortmund’s three games and made little to no impact on the matches. The Premier League is set for a June return and fans can play free casino games and get bet bonuses to wager on the fixtures when they return.

Sancho’s performance versus Bayern Munich in midweek was more proof that his price tag is far too high for Premier League clubs to splash out on him. The winger came on at halftime for teammate Julian Brandt only to make no impact on the fixture. In Borussia Dortmund’s biggest game of the campaign in which they had the opportunity to narrow Bayern Munich’s league lead to just one point, Sancho was the guiltiest player of not showing up.

The winger completed 33 passes with two key passes being tallied, yet never got himself into scoring positions and was mostly anonymous on the wing. If a Premier League team is to pay over £105m for Sancho’s services, then they will need far more production in big games from the Englishman.

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Sancho were high just two months ago. The winger’s form had wowed coaches and supporters, yet his return from the Bundesliga break looking unfit and pudgy has put them off. A number of fans took to Twitter after Borussia Dortmund’s loss to Bayern weighing in on the winger’s poor game. Sancho’s form and fitness may not be the only reason Manchester United do not splurge on a transfer. Manchester United’s debts have soared during the coronavirus pandemic reaching £430m.

Much of the debt increase sustained by Manchester United was due to their most recent transfer splurges on centre-back Harry Maguire and midfielder Bruno Fernandes. If the club are to purchase Sancho in the summer, then they would add a considerable amount to their debt.

Manchester United currently seem to be the only real option for Sancho although Chelsea have been rumoured as a potential destination. Sancho’s style may not fit in at Liverpool and it is doubtful Pep Guardiola and company at Manchester City would welcome him back to the fold. Liverpool have turned their attention toward RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and possibly Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz instead.

Sancho’s recent form isn’t the first time he has had issues at Signal Iduna Park. Problems presented themselves earlier this campaign with coach Lucien Favre choosing not to select him for matches. Sancho could be in store for another season in the Bundesliga at Borussia Dortmund. With professional issues hurting his cause and financial problems potentially causing Manchester United not to dip into the transfer market, Sancho could be a Dortmund player for the foreseeable future.
