Upon retiring from playing, Alonso took his first steps into coaching when he was appointed as manager of Tango Squad FC

The team which was set up by Adidas in 2016 pulls together the best non-signed street footballers from across Europe to represent the sports brand both on and off the pitch.

In an interview with Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, Alonso expressed his desire to manage Liverpool, however he expected former team-mate and good friend Steven Gerrard to become manager of the club before him.

Whilst completing his UEFA coaching badges in 2018, Alonso took a coaching role within former side Real Madrid’s academy where he managed their under 14’s side and led them to a league title.

He is currently manager of Real Sociedad’s ‘B’ team which play in the Spanish Second Division joining them in July 2019.
