Wade Elliott

Where is Wade Elliott now?

An ever-present player during Burnley’s 2009-10 Premier League season, Wade Elliott retired from playing in 2015 after captaining the successful Bristol City side which won promotion to the Championship.

A former academy player at Southampton he ended a long career, mainly in the Championship, having made 793 first-team appearances at four professional clubs including spells at Bristol City where he won the League One title as well as the English Football League Trophy.

Having already taken his coaching badges whilst still an active player, upon retiring he stayed on at The Robins as the new manager of their under-21’s side but in June 2016, after a coaching restructure at the club, City made the surprising decision to relieve Elliott of his duties.

He then made a return to playing football a month later when he featured for non-league side Forest Green Rovers in a pre-season friendly with a view to earning a new playing contract.

Although Elliott featured heavily during Forest Green’s pre-season he felt his immediate future lay in coaching and in October 2016 he was announced as the club’s academy’s new assistant manager.

In April 2017 he left his post at Forest Green to join Premier League side Stoke City as assistant manager of their under-23’s team before getting promoted to manager in January 2018 when Glyn Hodges left the club after the sacking of first team manager Mark Hughes. He returned to his original role at the end of the season.

In the summer of 2020 Elliott joined Cheltenham Town as a coach with both the first-team and the development squad and was promoted to his current role as head coach in July 2022.

Following a difficult start to the 2023–24 season that saw his side pick up just one point from eight league matches without scoring. He departed the club on 20 September 2023
