Vincent Kompany

Where is Vincent Kompany now?

Legendary Manchester City defender and club captain Vincent Kompany hung up his boots at the end of the 2019/20 season after spending a final year back at his first club Anderlecht.

Having come through the Belgian side’s academy system, he started his professional career in 2003 and went onto make 532 first-class appearances, the majority of them in Manchester where he spent 11 trophy-laden years.

During his time at The Etihad Stadium he won an impressive four Premier League titles, two FA Cup wins, the League cup on four occasions. This was in addition to the two Belgian League titles which he had won previously.

He also won a number of individual awards including the Belgian Young Footballer of the Year twice, the Premier League’s Player of the Season and he was also a member of the PFA’s Premier League team of the Season on three occasions.

Kompany was also an important member of the Belgium international side between 2004 and 2014 winning 89 caps and featuring in the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup finals.

Having left Manchester City off of the back of winning the domestic treble in 2019, he joined Anderlecht for the 2019/20 season as player-manager.

Unfortunately he had endured a terrible start to his first campaign and stepped down from his managerial duties to focus primarily on being a player. When he finally hung up his boots in August 2020 he was immediately appointed as manager on a full-time basis on a four-year contract.

After finishing third in the league and runners-up in the Belgian Cup final he left the club by mutual consent in May 2022 and joined current side Burnley FC a month later.

Kompany had a tremendous first season as Burnley’s manager leading them to the 2022/23 Championship title and promotion to the Premier League.

Outside of football Kompany graduated from the Alliance Manchester Business School with a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 2018 and has been involved in a number of business interests including a number of charity projects across the globe. He is also a FIFA ambassador for the SOS Children charity.
