Gavin McCann

Where is Gavin McCann now?

Although Gavin McCann had a number of injuries throughout his career he still managed to chalk up over 300 Premier League appearances for three different teams.

Unfortunately his career was cut short in 2011 when he finally had to retire due to injury at only 33-years-old.

He did however win one full cap for the England national side in 2001.

In 2005, whilst still an active player McCann set up a football academy with former Blackpool player Jamie Milligan but this has since closed.

Upon retiring from playing, he stayed on at Bolton Wanderers to gain some coaching experience within their academy before eventually moving on to Hyde United as their assistant manager.

He left the club in November 2013 after the team failed to register a win in their first 17 games of the season.

Early 2015 saw McCann summoned to answer allegations of perjury at Newcastle Magistrates Court for matters relating to a legal case by his former agent who claimed that he was cut out of the deal which took McCann from Bolton to Aston Villa.

All parties involved in the case were cleared of the charges after the prosecution offered no evidence.

In September 2015 McCann was appointed Head of Academy Coaching at Blackpool but left the club a year later to return to former side Bolton Wanderers to develop their youngsters within their academy.

He is currently head coach of Bolton’s under 18’s side.
