Where is Gavin McCann now?

Former Premier League midfielder Gavin McCann retired from playing in 2011 at the age of 33 after spending three seasons playing for Bolton Wanderers.

Although he was unfortunately blighted with injury woes throughout his career he still managed to chalk up over 300 Premier League appearances for Everton, Aston Villa and Bolton over 11 consecutive seasons in the top-flight. He was also part of the Sunderland team which won the old First Division title in 1999 with 105 points.

He also won one full cap for the England national side in a friendly game against Spain in 2001.

Upon retiring from playing, he stayed on at Bolton Wanderers to gain some coaching experience within their academy before eventually moving on to Hyde United as their assistant manager. He left the club in November 2013 after the team failed to register a win in their first 17 games of the season.

In September 2015 McCann was appointed Head of Academy Coaching at Blackpool but left the club a year later to return to former side Bolton Wanderers to develop their youngsters within their academy.

After spending time with the under-15’s he moved up to coach the under-18’s before leaving the club in January 2021 when the club restructured the academy after dropping down to category 3 status.

Since 2022, McCann has been working at non-league side Hyde United as a first-team coach.
