Eyal Berkovic

Where is Eyal Berkovic now?

Voted by The Times newspaper as one of the top 10 best midfielders in the history of the Premier League, the often temperamental Eyal Berkovic called time on his playing career in 2006 in his native Israel whilst playing for Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

Playing professionally for 17 years he finished his domestic career having made over 400 first-team appearances for eight teams including five English sides.

He was also an important member of the Israel national side and represented his country on 78 occasions, scoring nine goals.

Upon retiring from playing, Berkovic went straight into management with Israeli side Maccabi Netanya but he left after two months after a fall out with the club’s owners.

After a few years of working in the media and also operating a soccer school, he made a return to management in 2014 when he was appointed head coach of Happoel Tel Aviv.

However, his appointment was short-lived and he resigned after eight months following disagreements with the club’s owner.

After falling out with the owners of both clubs he served as manager under, Berkovic is now owner of Israeli second division side Hapoel Rishon LeZion and answers to no-one but himself.
