Where is Deon Burton now?
The much-travelled former Derby County striker Deon Burton finally retired from playing in 2016 after a season playing in the non-league with Worcester City.
A Jamaican international with 62 caps to his name, he played for 18 clubs during his career at every level from the Premier League down to the National League North. He hung up his boots having made 712 appearances, scoring 169 goals.
Amongst the highlights of his playing days are winning the First Division title with Portsmouth in 2003, the Second Division title with Gillingham in 2013 and also scoring for Stoke City in their Second Division play-off finals win in 2002.
A holder of the UEFA A coaching licence, he owns and operates the Deon Burton Football Academy which runs in partnership with Rochdale FC and bridges the gap between grassroots and academy football.
He is also an experienced academy coach and spent a couple of years at Birmingham City before joining the West Bromwich Albion academy in July 2017.
After a year working with different age-groups within the academy he was appointed as Professional Development Phase Coach assisting with the running of the under-21’s side as well as managing the club’s players that go out on loan.
Away from football coaching, Burton works for former Derby County team-mate Darryl Powell’s sports management firm as a consultant and player mentor.
