Dennis Wise

Where is Dennis Wise now?

After a long, successful career spanning 20 years, Chelsea legend Dennis Wise played his last competitive game whilst at Coventry City in 2006.

The Blue’s record signing when he joined from Wimbledon in 1990, Wise enjoyed an illustrious playing career which included three FA Cup wins (one with Wimbledon), one League Cup, the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

He also represented the England national side on 21 occasions and was a member of the 2000 European Championships squad.

In the latter years of his playing career he started to get involved in the managerial side of the game, firstly as player manager of Millwall where he took them to the FA Cup Final and then brief spells as manager at Swindon Town and Southampton.

In 2006 he was appointed manager of Leeds United but the club was having financial problems at the time and he faced an uphill task with points deductions and fines affecting the team.

He left Elland Road in 2008 to join Newcastle United as an executive director but again this role was ill-fated and he left the club in 2009

In 2013 Wise won a claim for the return of £500,000 which he gave former close friend and Charlton co-owner Tony Jimenez to invest in a golf course in France.

He claimed that the ‘agreed purpose’ was not fulfilled and said he was entitled to have the money back.

Wise’s son Henry who went up with his dad to collect the FA Cup trophy in 2000 is currently playing for Watford under 23’s.

In November 2017 Wise made a return to the public eye when he was unveiled as one of the contestants in the hugely popular ITV show I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

He followed in the footsteps of ex-footballers Wayne Bridge, Kieron Dyer, Jimmy Bullard, John Fashanu and Neil Ruddock who have also appeared on the show.

A popular character who formed strong bonds with the other camp mates, Wise spent a total of 19 days on the show and finished in fifth place.

Upon his return from the Australian jungle he started working as a Premier League analyst on Sky Sports News.
