Dave Watson

Where is Dave Watson now?

Former defender Dave Watson finally hung up his boots in 2001 at the age of 39 after 21 years playing at the top level.

Making over 700 first-team appearances over his long career, he won the League Cup and the Second Division title with Norwich City and the First Division title and FA Cup with Everton.

He also played for the England national side winning 12 caps and featured in the 1988 UEFA European Championships.

Having already had a taste of management in 1997 when he briefly took charge of Everton following the resignation of manager Joe Royle, Watson was always going to pursue a career in coaching.

As soon as he retired he joined recently relegated Tranmere Rovers as manager with a remit to get back to the league above, but was sacked after failing to reach that goal after one season.

He then spent time working for Birmingham City as a scout before joining Wigan Athletic as youth team coach in 2008.

Moving to Newcastle United as an under-18’s coach in 2011, Watson spent nine years on Tyneside before leaving at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Away from football he owns a property company with his wife called D & E Watson Properties.
