Where is Claus Lundekvam now?
Former Saints captain Claus Lundekvam spent 12 years at the club eventually retiring in 2008 after making 357 appearances for the club.
A full Norwegian international player, Lundekvam represented his country on 40 occasions scoring two goals, which was the same amount of goals he scored during his Southampton career.
When he hung up his boots the Norwegian was awarded a testimonial game against Celtic but unfortunately US rockers Bon Jovi had already been booked to play a gig at St Mary’s Stadium during the week that the testimonial was to be played and the pitch was left in a terrible condition afterwards.
With Celtic unable to switch the date, Lundekvam paid out £100,000 of his own money for emergency pitch repairs to ensure the game went ahead and luckily the turnout was good with 18,000 fans attending which meant that he almost broke even.
Upon retiring from playing Lundekvam struggled to adjust to life without football and admitted to drinking two litres of hard liquor and between five and 10 grams of cocaine every day.
He also revealed that he had plans to fly to Rio and literally drink himself to death, even booking a one-way ticket, but missed the flight due to a drugs binge.
Nowadays, completely recovered from his addictions, Lundekvam works as a well-respected TV pundit for Norwegian station TV2.
