After making a mark in the reserve team of Amiens, he quickly advanced to the main team in 2016. In the next year, he went to Lyon on a loan contract. Again, he made a few amazing performances there and quickly transferred to Lyon for good.

At a similar time in 2018, he became part of the France national football team.

He played 33 matches for Lyon in 2018/2019 season. While he scored little, Ndombele attracted worldwide attention with his performance against Manchester City.
