Paulo Ferreira

Where is Paulo Ferreira now?

Portuguese defender Paulo Ferreira called time on a glittering career at the end of the 2012-13 season after nine seasons playing in the Premier League with Chelsea.

Blues fans will always hold him close to their hearts as he was a magnificent servant for the club who never complained about lack of first team opportunities and had genuine love and respect for the club which is often missing from the modern day professional.

Over a 16-year playing career Ferreira won a number of trophies including the Primeira Liga twice, the UEFA Cup and the Champions League with Porto as well as the Premier League three times, the FA Cup four times, the UEFA Europa League and the Champions League with Chelsea.

He was also a regular for the Portugal national side in the 2000’s making 62 appearances and representing them in the 2004 and 2008 European Championships as well as the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup finals.

Staying on at Chelsea whilst taking his coaching badges, Ferreira worked for the club in an ambassadorial role before moving into a technical coach position where he was responsible for monitoring the club’s loan players’ development.

After 18-years at the club he left in 2022 to return to his family in Portugal but he made a return to football in July 2023 when he joined current side Lille as an assistant coach.
