Where is Chris Makin now?
A cult hero at Sunderland, Chris Makin retired from playing professionally in 2008 on advice from his doctor after failing to overcome a hip injury.
He will always be remembered on Tyneside for his ability to hit row Z from ambitious long range efforts and home fans would even shout ‘Shoot’, in irony every time he ventured into the opposition’s half.
Playing for 17 years, he made over 400 appearances for nine different clubs including a season playing in Ligue 1 in France for Marseille in 1996.
Although he retired from playing in 2008, he did come out of retirement briefly in 2010 when he turned out for non-league side Radcliffe Borough.
Since retiring from playing, Makin has worked in property management looking after the properties he invested in during his playing days.
He also works as a sports analyst and commentator for Qatar broadcaster Al-Kass TV.
