Upon retiring from playing Hislop moved to the United States and started a new career as a pundit and co-commentator for ESPN.

He was also briefly a goalkeeping coach for the football team at Quinnipiac University but had to quit because of his media commitments.

Hislop is also the honorary president of anti-racism charity ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ which came about when he donated £50 to a local anti-racism campaign during his time playing for Newcastle United. After urging more people to donate and getting more actively involved with the campaign, Show Racism the Red Card was created.

Alongside his media commitments with ESPN he also works for ESPN Carribean as a business development representative.
