Where is Robbie Savage now?

Former Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage, retired from playing in 2011 after four seasons playing for Derby County.

A competitive, fiery midfielder renowned for winding up his opponents, Savage started his football journey at Manchester United alongside the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers before moving to Crewe Alexandra in 1994 where he started his professional career.

He went onto make over 600 first-team appearances for six different teams over 17 years winning the League Cup with Leicester City in 2000. He also represented the Wales national side on 39 occasions scoring two goals.

Upon retiring from playing, Savage has carved a successful career in the media on both television and radio and won the Sony Radio Academy’s Rising Star award on 2011 for his 6-0-6 show on BBC Radio 5.

Working as a pundit for various channels including the BBC and the ESPN he moved to BT Sport when it was launched in 2014 firstly as a pundit and then as a co-host of The Fletch & Sav Show until it was cancelled in 2016.

He now hosts a Saturday morning show on BT Sport called Saturday Morning Savage and is a regular panelist on the channel’s Saturday afternoon results show Score. He also does the occasional stint as a co-commentator.

Savage has also released two books since he has retired, one in 2011 called Savage!: The Robbie Savage Autobiography and the second four years later called I’ll Tell You What… He also writes a weekly column for the Daily Mirror which is published every Friday and also works for bookmaker William Hill in an ambassadorial role.

In October 2020, following the winding up of Macclesfield Town, Savage joined the relaunched phoenix club Macclesfield FC as their new head of football operations. 

He has also launched his own foundation which is dedicated to delivering free grassroots football to any child regardless of their ability or background.

In December 2021 his son Charlie made his debut for Manchester United in a Champions League game against Young Boys. Savage was co-commentator for BT Sport’s coverage of the game and had the unique opportunity of announcing his son’s debut when he came on as a substitute.
