Upon retiring from playing, Shaw returned to Milwall in a coaching role before joining Coventry City as the club’s assistant manager in 2012.

When manager Andy Thorn was sacked after a poor start to the 2012-13 season, Shaw was appointed as caretaker manager until the club found a replacement but left when new manager Mark Robins brought in his own backroom staff.

In February 2014 he joined former club Crystal Palace as head coach of their under-16’s academy team where he spent two and a half years before moving up the age groups to work as a coach for the under-23’s team.

He left Palace in October 2019 and spent a year in the United States as director of football of Winter Park Academy before returning to England where he is currently assistant coach of the Watford under-23’s team.

Shaw also coached the Canada men’s national side in the summer of 2023 when they competed in the CONCACAF Nation’s League Finals.
