Where is Paul Bracewell now?
Part of Everton’s successful league title winning side in 1985, Paul Bracewell retired from playing in 1999 after two seasons playing in the Second Division with Fulham.
Starting his career in 1979 with Stoke City he went onto make over 700 first-team appearances including three spells at Sunderland.
Although he was a title winner with Everton he was extremely unlucky when it came to the FA Cup, ending up on the losing side on four occasions. He joined the Merseyside club the year after they won the cup in 1984 and was on the losing side for them in 1985, 1986 and 1989 and was also part of the Sunderland team which lost to Liverpool in the 1992 final.
Having already worked as a player-coach at Fulham since 1997, Bracewell was handed the managerial reigns in 1999 after Kevin Keegan left the club to take on the England national team manager job.
Unfortunately his tenure was short-lived and he was dismissed in March 2000 for the more experienced Jean Tigana, despite his team competing in the top half of Division One for most of the season.
He made a return to management in 2000 with Halifax Town but resigned a year later after a gruelling season in which he managed to keep their Football League status by just two points.
After time working as a FA National Coach and as a director of a children’s football academy, Bracewell returned to Sunderland in 2013 as a development coach, working with the under-18 and under21 sides.
He was then promoted to first team coach in June 2015 before a promotion to assistant manager four months later after the appointment of Sam Allardyce. Bracewell left Sunderland at the end of the 2016/17 season following the sacking of David Moyes and the club’s relegation to the Championship.
He now works for Tottenham Hotspur as an elite development coach.
