Where is Kanu now?
One of an elite band of players that have won the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Cup, the Champions League and an Olympic gold medal, Nwankwo Kanu retired from playing in 2012 after six seasons at Portsmouth.
His complete haul of medals include two Premier League titles and two FA Cup winners medals with Arsenal, an FA Cup winners medal with Portsmouth, the Nigerian Premier League with Iwuanyanwu Nationale, the Dutch Eredivisie title on three occasions with Ajax and the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan.
He was also a two-time winner of the African Footballer of the Year award in 1996 and also in 1999.
On the international stage he won 87 caps for the Nigeria national side and played in the 1998, 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals.
Regarded as a national icon in his native Nigeria, Kanu is known for his philanthropic work and has founded theĀ Kanu Heart Foundation which helps young African children with heart defects. He also works extensively in his role as an ambassador for UNICEF.
He has also pursued many business interests in retirement including a modelling agency and photographic studios in Nigeria called Papilo which is his nickname. He has also created his own football team called Papilo FC.
His wife Amara Kanu is a fitness guru and has her own range of gym and yoga wear as well as a lifestyle book called ‘Healthy Living’.
