Where is Nathan Blake now?
Welsh striker Nathan Blake called time on his playing career in 2006 after a short spell playing for non-league side Newport County.
Scoring goals at every club he played for over a 16-year career, Blake won a number of trophies including play-off winners medals with Bolton and Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Third Division League title and two Welsh Cup finals with Cardiff City.
Unfortunately he also has the unfortunate record of getting relegated from the Premier League on five occasions, however he is also one of the most promoted players to the top-tier having been successful four times.
On the international scene he represented the Wales national side on 30 occasions, scoring four goals.
Upon retiring from playing, Blake moved into the acting world and won a Best Supporting Actor award for his role as a football coach in the short film The Homing Bird at the 2014 Film Fest Cymru.
In the same year he graduated from a FA funded Corporate Governance course, entitled On Board which aims at getting more former professional players on to club boards, and make football’s boardrooms more diverse.
In February 2015 Blake joined the board of his former club Newport County as a non-executive director but stepped down after only five months when the supporters trust took over the club.
Later that year he was appointed as chairman of Newport County’s charitable trust, County in the Community, which runs sport, health and educational programs in Newport and the surrounding area.
Since 2011, Blake has been reporting on Cardiff City matches for the Wales Online website as well as hosting his own show on the site called Blakey’s Bootroom. He has also worked for BBC Wales, BBC 5 Live and Sky Sports as a match analyst and commentator.
In 2020 he fronted a BBC documentary about the lives of black miners in Wales.
