Mark Viduka

Where is Mark Viduka now?

After a nine-year spell in English football with Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Newcastle United, legendary Australian player Mark Viduka finally hung up his boots at the age of 34 in 2009.

A prolific scorer at every Premier League club he played for, Viduka was most effective during his time at Elland Road scoring 59 goals in 130 appearances.

He also scored a hatful of goals for Melbourne Knights winning the double for the Australian side as well as Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb where he won the double in three consecutive seasons.

When he originally moved from Melbourne Knights to Croatia Zagreb in 1995, the transfer fee helped fund the renovation of their stadium and they now have a stand named in honour of their prodigal son.

On the international front he represented the Australia national side on 43 occasions and captained them at the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals.

Regular viewers of Sky One’s Fantasy Football Club show will have seen that most of Viduka’s ex-Leeds United team-mates include him within their line ups of the best players that they have played with.

Danny Mills, Ian Harte and Paul Robinson all included him in their #One2Eleven teams as did George Boateng who played with him at Middlesbrough.

Upon retiring from playing, Viduka completed his coaching badges and returned to his native Australia with a view to remaining in the game. Unfortunately the Football Federation in Australia only required his services for guest appearances at special dinners and not for any coaching opportunities so, disillusioned, he moved back to Croatia.

He currently owns and runs a cafe with his wife near Zagreb called ‘No Higher Point’ but hasn’t ruled out coaching in the Australian A-League at a later date.
