Where is Keith Andrews now?
Former Blackburn Rovers and Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews retired from playing in 2014 after a brief spell at former club Milton Keynes Dons.
Andrews enjoyed a long and successful playing career making 413 first-team appearances for 12 different sides over a 16-year period. He was Wolverhampton Wanderers’ youngest ever captain at the age of 21 and was part of the MK Dons team which won the Football League Trophy and League Two title in 2008.
He was also an important part of the Republic of Ireland national side between 2008 and 2012 winning 35 caps and featuring in the 2012 UEFA European Championships.
Upon hanging up his boots, Andrews stayed on at MK Dons as a first-team coach working alongside manager Karl Robinson for their first season in the Championship. However, he left after one season to continue his development and education elsewhere although he was quick to say that it was the best place for him to make the transition from player to coach.
In January 2017 he made a return to football when he was appointed as a youth coach at Irish side St Patrick’s Athletic whilst working towards completing his UEFA coaching badges. Prior to this he had spent time as a mentor for the Irish national side under 15’s team.
Following his work with the younger boys he was appointed as a technical advisor to the successful Republic of Ireland under-17’s side which reached the quarter-finals of the 2017 European Championships.
He then had spells coaching the under-18’s side and the under-21’s before a promotion in April 2020 to the senior side as one of manager Stephen Kenny’s assistants.
Andrews left the international setup in 2023 once Stephen Kenny’s contract as manager was not renewed but he wasn’t out of coaching for long and joined Premier League side Sheffield United in his current role as one of new manager Chris Wilder’s backroom staff.
Away from his coaching duties Andrews works within the media as a football pundit and analyst on Sky Sports mainly focusing on the Championship.
