Where is John Carew now?

The 6 foot 4 inch tall, heavily tattooed Norwegian legend John Carew officially retired from playing in 2013 after a season in the Championship with West Ham United.

Over his 15-year career he had the opportunity to play in a number of different European countries including his native Norway, Spain, Italy, Turkey and France before plying his trade in England. He ended his playing days having made 492 first-team appearances and scoring 173 goals.

He also won a number of trophies including the Norwegian Cup with Valerenga, the La Liga title with Valencia and Ligue 1 with Lyon. He was also a UEFA Champions League runner-up with Valencia, a Football League Cup runner-up with Aston Villa and an FA Cup runner-up with Stoke City.

He was also an important part of the Norway international side during the 2000’s and won 91 caps, scoring 24 goals.

Since retiring from playing Carew has been busy with a variety of projects including underwear modelling, professional photography and also television work for Norwegian and English channels.

He has said that he feels that his future lies in film and television acting and he has made a few appearances in movies including a supporting role in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil which starred Angelina Jolie.

He also had a recurring role in the successful Norwegian television series Heimebane in which he played an ageing footballer.

In 2022, Carew was jailed for 14 months for tax evasion after unintentionally failing to disclose income and assets abroad to Norwegian authorities.
