Where is Jesper Gronkjaer now?
Chelsea’s former winger Jesper Gronkjaer retired from playing in 2011 after five successful seasons back in his native Denmark with FC Copenhagen where he won the Danish Superliga four times.
Starting his playing career in 1995 in Denmark with AaB, he went onto make over 400 first-team appearances for seven teams over a 16 year period including spells in Spain with Atletico Madrid and Germany with VfB Stuttgart. However, he is arguably best known for his time at Stamford Bridge where he will always be remembered by their fans as scorer of the ‘billion pound goal’ which secured Champions League qualification in 2003 and ultimately led to Roman Abramovich purchasing the club.
On the international front he was an important part of the Denmark international side between 1999 and 2010 winning 80 caps and playing in the 2000 and 2004 UEFA European Championships as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals.
Upon retiring from playing Gronkjaer started a new career in broadcasting and is currently a match analyst and co-commentator for Danish entertainment group NENT.
