Gilles de Bilde

Where is Gilles de Bilde now?

Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gilles de Bilde retired from playing in 2007 after a couple of seasons playing lower-league football in his native Belgium.

Starting his professional career in 1992, he went onto make over 300 first-team appearances for six teams including PSV Eindhoven where he won the Eredivisie in 1997.

Although he only played in the Premier League for a short while, he ended up Wednesday’s top scorer during the 1999-2000 season with 10 goals but fell out of favour with the fans as he was perceived as a mercenary whose only motivation was money.

On the international stage he represented the Belgiam national side on 25 occasions between 1994 and 2000 and was a member of the 2000 European Championships squad.

Eventually retiring from playing in 2007, de Bilde has participated in a number of television shows and even worked as a male model for a Belgian fashion designer.

He now works as one of the main pundits on Belgian television station Eleven Sports.
