Where is Fabrice Muamba now?

Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba retired from playing at the age of 24 after a cardiac arrest in a game against Tottenham Hotspur in March 2012.

A product of the Arsenal academy, he was unable to break through into their first-team and moved to Birmingham City in 2006 where he won their Young Player of the Season award in his first season. He then moved to Bolton where he made 148 appearances before his career was cruelly cut short.

On the international front he represented England at all youth levels from under-16’s and made 33 appearances for the under-21’s.

Upon retiring from playing, Muamba started studying for a BA Honours in Sportswriting and Broadcasting, graduating in 2015. As part of his course he carried out work experience on the BBC North West Tonight television programme.

Keen to pursue a career in football coaching he has completed his UEFA ‘A’ license coaching badges spending time conducting training sessions at the Liverpool academy as well as coaching the Rochdale under-16’s side as part of his course. He also coached at Manchester City and Stoke City whilst he was completing his course.

In 2018 Muamba graduated from Liverpool University with an LMA Diploma in Football Management which is a course designed for football professionals. He also works for the PFA as a Delegate Liaison Executive.

In the summer of 2022, Muamba made his first foray into coaching when he joined former side Bolton Wanderer’s academy as head coach of their under-15’s side.

He currently coaches at the Burnley FC academy on a full-time basis working with their under-15’s and also under-21’s sides as part of his UEFA ‘A’ license.
