Where is Ed de Goey now?
Chelsea’s former Dutch goalkeeper Ed de Goey hung up his gloves in 2006 after three years playing in the Championship with Stoke City.
Starting his playing career in 1985 with Sparta Rotterdam, he went onto make 613 first-team appearances over a 20-year period including six seasons in London with Chelsea where he won the FA Cup, the League Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup. He also won the Eredivisie and Dutch KNVB Cup four times during his time playing for Rotterdam.
On the international stage he represented the Netherlands on 31 occasions between 1992 and 1998 and played in every game when they finished fourth in the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals.A year after he retired de Goey joined Queens Park Rangers as first team coach but he was only in this role for six months before his contract was terminated by new chairman Gianni Paladini.
Upon retiring from playing, de Goey had a brief spell as first-team coach of Queens Park Rangers before his contract was terminated by new chairman Gianni Paladini.
He then took some time out of the game before returning to Holland in 2010 to join Dutch side RKC Waalwijk as goalkeeping coach where he spent four years before leaving the club in 2014.
After four years working as goalkeeper coach at DHC Delft, a lower league Dutch side he moved to current side VOC Rotterdam in 2018 in a similar role.
Away from the football coaching de Goey also runs a successful goalkeeping school in Berkel which is a town north of Rotterdam.
