Where is Dominic Matteo now?

Former Premier League defender Dominic Matteo retired in 2009 after a couple of seasons playing in the Championship with Stoke City.

Starting his professional career at Liverpool in 1992 where he had come up through their youth ranks, he went onto make 366 first-team appearances over a 17-year period for five teams including Leeds United where he was one of their best players during their run to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2001.

On the international front he represented Scotland on six occasions between 2000 and 2002.

Upon retiring from playing, Matteo moved into the broadcasting world and has worked extensively as a commentator on LFC TV and as a pundit on Sky Sports News over the years.

He also published a book in 2011 called In My Defence the Autobiography in which he admitted running up over £1 million in gambling debts during his playing days. Following the success of the book he joined the after-dinner speaking circuit, talking about his football career and the highs and lows of being a professional footballer.

In November 2019 Matteo was taken seriously ill and underwent an operation on a brain tumour but has since made a full recovery and was given the all-clear in April 2020.

Alongside his media work he occasionally works in the corporate hospitality suites at Leeds United.
