Where is Dennis Wise now?
After a long, successful career spanning 20 years, Chelsea legend Dennis Wise played his last competitive game for Coventry City in 2006.
A record signing for the Blue’s when he joined from Wimbledon in 1990, Wise enjoyed an illustrious playing career which included three FA Cup wins (one with Wimbledon), one League Cup, the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
He also represented the England national side on 21 occasions between 1991 and 2000 and was a member of the 2000 UEFA European Championships squad.
In the latter years as he was winding down his playing career he got involved in the coaching side of the game, firstly as player-manager of Millwall where he took them to the FA Cup Final and then as manager at Swindon Town.
In 2006 he was appointed manager of Leeds United but the club was having financial problems at the time and he faced an uphill task with points deductions and fines affecting the team. He left in 2008 to join Newcastle United as an executive director but again this role was ill-fated and he left the club in 2009
In November 2017 Wise made a return to the public eye when he was unveiled as one of the contestants in the hugely popular ITV show I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! following in the footsteps of ex-footballers Wayne Bridge, Kieron Dyer, Jimmy Bullard, John Fashanu and Neil Ruddock who have also appeared on the show.
A popular character who formed strong bonds with the other camp-mates, Wise spent a total of 19 days on the show and finished in fifth place.
In July 2020 he joined Italian lower-league side Como 1907 as head of football before moving up to his current role as Chief Executive Officer of the club in 2021.
He also heads up Garuda Select which is a team made up of aspiring young Indonesian players aiming to make a move to one of Europe’s top clubs.
In the summer of 2023, his daughter Amber Wise was a contestant in the ITV reality show ‘Love Island‘.
