Dean Windass

Where is Dean Windass now?

Dean Windass, a physical, old fashioned centre forward finally called time on his long career in 2009 whilst at Darlington although he did sign for Scarborough on a pay as you play basis in 2011.

Spending the majority of his career in Yorkshire at Hull City and Bradford City he has cult status at both clubs for his goalscoring exploits.

Since retiring Windass has worked extensively in the media, mainly for Sky Sports as a match reporter for Soccer Saturday and on Sky Sports Radio. He is also a regular pundit on BBC Yorkshire’s “Late Kick Off”.

In December 2016 he was declared bankrupt after he, along with a number of other Premier League players, invested in three film companies which allegedly exploited a legal loophole in the tax code.

After promises of a risk-free investment from the companies, he never received a payout which subsequently led to his money problems.

Since January 2015, Windass has been working for former club Hull City as an ambassador which involves working in the club’s media department as well as going out to local schools and community events.

He also had a brief spell as a manager when he joined East Hull FC in 2019 but had to leave after two months as he couldn’t fit the job in around his existing work commitments.

In January 2020, Windass was appointed chairman of non-league side Goole AFC but left just eight days later by mutual consent.

Windass has been very open about his problems with depression and has admitted that he attempted suicide twice in one week in 2012.

His son Josh Windass has also followed his father into the game and currently plays as a striker in the Championship.
