In January 2012, Windass admitted that he had attempted suicide twice in one week after battling depression and alcohol.
In March 2013, Windass launched his new soccer school which is based in the Hull area.
In December 2016 Windass was declared bankrupt after he, along with a number of other Premier League players, invested in three film companies which allegedly exploited a legal loophole in the tax code.
After promises of a risk-free investment from the companies, he never received a payout which subsequently led to his money problems.
Since January 2015, Windass has been working for former club Hull City as an ambassador which involves working in the club’s media department as well as going out to local schools and community events.
His son Josh Windass currently plays as a striker for Scottish giants Rangers.
