Where is Dean Holdsworth now?
After a long career at 16 different clubs, former Premier League striker Dean Holdsworth finally hung up his boots in 2008 after dropping down the leagues to play non-league football as player-manager for Redbridge where he spent a year before joining Newport County as manager in 2008.
After a successful couple of years with the Welsh side winning promotion to the Conference National in 2010, he joined League Two side Aldershot Town as manager in 2011. Unfortunately he was sacked in February 2013 after a bad run of form which saw them languishing at the bottom of the table.
He made a brief return to management in May 2013 with Conference South side Chelmsford City but he left the club by mutual consent in November 2013.
After a couple of years out of the game Holdsworth made a return to football coaching in June 2015 when he was appointed director of football and manager of Brentwood Town but despite success on the pitch he stepped down as manager after only five months in order to ‘continue with his business interests‘.
Away from the coaching side of the game he is the creator/founder of The Master Technician which is an app/programme which allows managers and coaches to put all their game tactics and training session into one place eliminating the need for paper and losing information.
He also founded and chairs the NLFA (Non-League Footballers Association) which exists to improve the structures within Non League Football and to raise the standards of the game.
Holdsworth currently works as a consulant with investment group Sports Shield Consultancy which took over his former club Bolton Wanderers in February 2016. Following the takeover he was installed as the new chief executive but stepped aside in June 2016 to work as director of football.
He was only in the role for a month before stepping down but remained a shareholder of the club until March 2017 before relinquishing all ties a few months later.
In December 2018, Holdsworth joined Italian Serie B side Palermo as director of football operations following the club’s takeover by English company Global Future Sports.
He also worked for Southern League Premier side Stratford Town in an ambassadorial role on the commercial side of the club before being appointed manager in May 2022. He left the role just four months later stating that his growing business commitments made him unable to focus on his role as manager.
