Where is David White now?
Former Manchester City legend David White had to retire from the game in 1998 after three years at Sheffield United due to problems with his right ankle.
A strong, pacey forward he played for 13 years for three clubs making over 400 domestic first-team appearances and scoring over 100 goals as well as making one appearance for the England national side in 1992.
Upon retiring from playing, White went into the waste-recycling business with his brother but in 2015, after many successful years of trading, the company unfortunately went into liquidation with 70 job losses and debts of more than £12 million.
The pair were declared bankrupt later that year.
In November 2016, White revealed that he had been sexually abused by his former coach Barry Bennell when he was a young footballer playing for Whitehill Juniors in Manchester.
He was in the middle of writing about the experience in his forthcoming book but came out with the revelation after a number of ex-players came forward to say that they had been victims of sexual abuse in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
White released his book Shades of Blue: The Life of a Manchester City Legend and the Story that Shook Football in February 2017 and a year later his abuser Bennell was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
He has since co-founded the effect positive change in safeguarding and victim engagement, through football, by working collaboratively with governing bodies.
