Where is Darren Huckerby now?
After a successful career, largely spent in the Premier League, Darren Huckerby retired from playing in 2009 after a spell in the United States with the San Jose Earthquakes. Although he won the MLS Newcomer of the Year in his first season in the US, a persistent hip injury meant that he had to retire earlier than anticipated.
Starting his professional career in 1993 with Lincoln City, he went onto make over 500 first-team appearances over a 16-year period for nine different clubs including Manchester City where he won the old First Division title and Norwich City where he won the club’s Player of the Year award on two occasions.
Upon retiring from playing Huckerby moved into a career in coaching and returned to former side Norwich City in 2013 as an academy coach working alongside Graeme Murty with the under-16’s side.
He took charge of the under-16’s on a full-time basis in 2015 when Murty was moved up to the under-18’s and was appointed as assistant to Matt Gill with the under-23’s development squad two years later.
He left the club just three months later after an academy reshuffle but returned two years later to work for them as an ambassador hosting the corporate entertainment on matchdays.
