Where is Dalian Atkinson now?
One half of Aston Villa’s ‘Deadly Duo’ strike partnership alongside Dean Saunders, Dalian Atkinson retired from playing in 2001 after a spell in South Korea.
A League Cup winner with Aston Villa in 1994, Atkinson’s playing career took in clubs in six different countries including Spain, Turkey and France.
Upon retiring from football Atkinson set up a sports consultancy for clubs, players and agents called Players Come First but the business was dissolved in November 2015.
In August 2016, Atkinson was killed after being shot with a taser gun and kicked in the head by the police after an altercation outside his father’s house.
His older brother Kenroy said that he was in a distressed state, threatening and very upset. He was also covered in blood from a tube he had ripped out of his shoulder as he was on dialysis at the time for kidney failure.
Atkinson, who was 48-years-old was given medical attention for 35 minutes after being shot, but died 90 minutes later.
In November 2019, two West Mercia police officers were suspended after facing criminal charges relating to his death and two years later the officer who killed him was found guilty of manslaughter.
