Where is Curtis Fleming now?
Having spent much of his career in the Premier League with Middlesbrough, Curtis Fleming finally hung up his boots in 2005 after a brief spell playing for Shelbourne in his native Ireland.
A no-nonsense right back, he was a regular starter for Boro in the 1990’s making 146 Premier League appearances for the Teesiders as well as being on the losing side in three Wembley finals in two years for them- the League Cup and the FA Cup in 1997 and the League Cup again in 1998.
On the international stage he played for the Republic of Ireland national side on 10 occasions between 1996 and 1998.
Upon retiring from playing, Fleming spent a brief period as a match day pundit for Setanta Sports before embarking on a football coaching career.
Spells at Middlesbrough and Scottish side Livingston preceded a move to Crystal Palace in 2012 where he joined former team-mate Dougie Freedman as a development coach before a promotion to first-team coach.
When Freedman left Crystal Palace for Bolton Wanderers later that year, Fleming followed him but the pair were sacked after two seasons.
In June 2015 he joined up with fellow Middlesbrough legends Craig Hignett, Bernie Slaven and Gary Pallister as a coach at their Reds Football Academy before making a return to professional football in February 2016 when he joined up once more with Hignett as his first team coach at Hartlepool United.
He left Hartlepool in December 2016 after he was head-hunted by Ian Holloway at Queens Park Rangers to work as his first team coach having previously worked together at Crystal Palace.
In February 2018, Fleming left QPR to join former side Middlesbrough as manager Tony Pulis’ first team coach where he stayed for over two years before leaving in May 2019.
He made a return to coaching a year later when he was appointed as head coach of Indian side Punjab FC but left in April 2021 by mutual consent after leading them to a fourth-placed finish in their inaugural season in the I-League.
Fleming then joined Bristol City in July 2021 as first-team coach on a temporary basis under former Middlesbrough team-mate Nigel Pearson. He was appointed assistant manager at the club on a permanent basis a couple of months later.
He left the club when Pearson was sacked in October 2023 but wasn’t out of the game for long and joined Charlton Athletic in January 2024 in his current role as assistant head coach.
