Where is Claudio Reyna now?
Widely regarded as one of the greatest players that the USA have ever produced, Claudio Reyna retired from playing in 2008 after an 18-month spell back in his homeland with the New York Red Bulls.
Starting his professional career in 1994 with Bayer Leverkeusen, he ended his playing days having made over 300 first team appearances for six teams including Rangers where he was part of the side which won the Scottish League and Cup double in 2000.
On the international scene he was a mainstay of the United States national side for 12 years winning 112 caps and representing them at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup finals as well as the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
Always a favourite with the Manchester City fans, Reyna was reacquainted with the club in 2013 when he was appointed as director of football of City’s MLS franchise New York City FC.
After a fantastic five years at the club where they reached the semi-finals of the conference on four occasions, he left in November 2019 to join his current side Austin FC as their sporting director.
Away from football he is founder and president of the Claudio Reyna Foundation which is dedicated to improving the health and wellness of inner-city youth in low-income communities.
His son Gio has followed his father into professional football and is regarded as one of football’s hottest prospects.
Currently playing for Borussia Dortmund he was voted US Soccer’s Young Male Player of the Year in 2020.
