Where is Chris Waddle now?
Former Newcastle United, Spurs and Sheffield Wednesday winger Chris Waddle finally finished his illustrious career in 2002 after a spell playing non-league football with Worksop Town.
Adored by the fans at every club he played for, he surprisingly never won any silverware whilst playing in England and was twice on the losing side in the FA Cup final (in 1987 with Tottenham Hotspur and then again in 1993 with Sheffield Wednesday). He was also a League Cup runner-up in 1993 with the Owls.
However, he enjoyed tremendous success in France for Olympique Marseille between 1989 and 1991 where he won the French Ligue 1 in each of the three years that he played for them.
Waddle also had a stellar career on the international stage where he was a regular starter for the England senior side in the 1980’s winning 62 caps and featuring in the 1986 and 1990 FIFA World Cups as well as the 1988 UEFA European Championships.
Since retiring from playing Waddle has been working in the media as a football pundit on television and radio and has worked on various stations such as talkSPORT, Setanta Sports and ESPN.
He currently works for BBC Radio 5 live as a co-commentator on Premier League and Champion’s League games.
Never one to hold back on his opinions, his rant about England’s exit from the 2014 World Cup where he blamed the Premier League for the international team’s failures at tournaments has become legendary.
