Where is Chris Bart-Williams now?
Former Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest midfielder Chris Bart-Williams retired from playing in 2005 at the age of 32 after a brief spell playing for Maltese side Marsaxlokk.
Aside from winning the 1998 First Division title with Nottingham Forest in 1998, he was unfortunate to never win any other silverware during his career although he did receive an FA Cup and also a League Cup runners-up medal in 1993 when Sheffield Wednesday lost in both finals to Arsenal.
A regular player at England youth level, Bart-Williams never featured for the senior team despite being touted as one of the best young midfield prospects in the country during the mid-nineties.
Upon retiring from playing Bart-Williams moved to the USA to pursue a career in coaching and worked as an assistant coach at women’s team Boston Breakers before joining Quinnipiac University as men’s team assistant coach.
He also spent time as head coach of SoccerPlus Conneticut’s reserve side which is a ladies football team that plays in the third tier of women’s soccer in the US.
After playing and working in football for over 20 years, Bart-Williams took three years out of the game admitting that he felt burnt out and set up his own football academy based in North Carolina.
In 2021 he was appointed director of football for the city of Coral Gables’ community football programme before working for Miami-based Dade County Football Club as one of their senior coaches.
In July 2023, Bart-Williams died at the age of 49 for reasons not yet known.
