Where is Cheick Tiote now?

Cheick Tiote was a no-nonsense defensive midfielder who made over 150 appearances for Newcastle United between 2010 and 2016 who tragically died in 2017.

A fans favourite on Tyneside, his one and only goal for the club was a 25-yard volley equaliser in a 4–4 draw against Arsenal in a game which Newcastle United had trailed 4–0 at half time.

After falling down the pecking order when Rafa Benitez took over as manager at Newcastle, Tiote made a lucrative move to China with Beijing Enterprises in February 2017.

Tiote represented the club 12 times before suffering a cardiac arrest whilst training with his team and passed away later that day.

He was only 30-years-old when he died and he left two children and his wife who was expecting a  third child behind.

Tiote was given a military funeral in his native Ivory Coast and his shirt number of 24 was retired by his former club Beijing Enterprises.
