Where is Alan Wright now?
One of the shortest players to appear in the Premier League at 5 feet 4 inches, Alan Wright hung up his boots in 2011 after dropping into non-league football with Fleetwood Town.
Starting his career at Blackpool in 1989 with whom he won promotion to the old Third Division with in 1991, he went onto make over 600 first-team appearances for 12 different teams including Blackburn Rovers where he played during their Premier League title-winning season.
However, it was with Aston Villa where he is best known having played for the side for eight years and winning the League Cup with them in 1996.
An inductee in Blackpool’s hall of fame, Wright returned to the club in 2011 as a coach at the club’s Centre of Excellence and was assistant manager of the first team briefly in 2013 before Paul Ince was appointed as manager.
Wright combined his duties at the Blackpool FC academy, with a role as assistant manager to Paul Simpson at Northwich Victoria and stepped in as caretaker manager before the appointment of Martin Foyle.
He stepped in for a second time as caretaker manager when Foyle left but eventually left the club when new manager Lee Ashcroft was appointed at the end of the 2011-12 season
In May 2013, he was appointed manager of non-league Southport but left the club by mutual consent in December 2013 after a run of poor results left them 18th in the table.
He currently works within the Manchester City academy with former Blackburn Rovers team-mate Jason Wilcox.
