Where is Alan Kelly now?
Former Sheffield United keeper Alan Kelly hung up his gloves in 2004 after a five-year spell at Blackburn Rovers having played top flight football for a total of 19 years.
Starting his professional career with Preston North End in 1985 he went onto make over 450 first-team appearances over a 19-year period with five teams including Blackburn where he was part of the squad which won the League Cup in 2002.
On the international stage he represented the Republic of Ireland national side winning 34 caps and was part of the 1994 and 2002 FIFA World Cup Finals squads.
Upon retiring from playing Kelly went into coaching and returned to former side Preston as head of academy goalkeeping before leaving in 2017 having left a fine legacy of developing goalkeepers including Jordan Pickford and Sam Johnstone.
Later that year he made a return to club football as temporary goalkeeping coach at Everton working under caretaker manager David Unsworth with whom he also worked with at Preston North End.
He returned to Everton once more in December 2019 as a temporary coach when Duncan Ferguson was appointed caretaker manager and ended up staying on in the role on a permanent basis when Carlo Ancelotti took over as manager.
Alongside his club coaching, he also had two spells as goalkeeper coach for the Republic of Ireland national team having originally coached them from 2005 until 2013, returning to the role in 2018 and leaving again in 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
